Egg & Muffin Toaster - Consumer Concern

Back to Basics Egg & Muffin Toaster - Consumer Concern from Reader G.G.

By , About.com Guide

I had a Back to Basics egg & muffin toaster about 6 months old activate the egg cooking side all by itself with no water present in the containment tray. The plastic egg tray started melting down stinking up the kitchen at 4:30 AM which got the attention of our chocolate lab and it started barking. Once I figured out what was making the awful smell I unplug it and tossed it outside.

Has anyone else had this happen that you know of?

This is a very unfortunate incident. It may have been an isolated problem with this particular unit only; I have not heard of other complaints with this toaster. If anyone has had this problem, please let us know about it, to protect future consumers.

My own toaster is about 2 years old and I have not had this problem. But, I unplug and store it after each use, mainly due to space limitations.

If you have a Back to Basics Egg & Muffin toaster, there is a precaution you can take - unplug it after each use.

Keep in mind that it could be very easy to inadvertently turn on features when you're repositioning appliances on the counter. I know many people that always unplug appliances after each use and this is certainly a good practice.
