How a Toaster Bagel Setting Works

Why a Toaster Bagel Setting is Better

By , About.com Guide

While many toaster designs incorporate wide slots for thick breads and bagels, a bagel setting works along with the slot design to provide the best browning.

A toaster setting activates both heating elements to brown each side of a toast. However, a bagel setting is designed to toast only the cut side of a bagel, which is the preferred browning for this popular breakfast fare. The bagel must be inserted properly for this feature to work well, and both halves of the bagel must have the cut side facing the internal (middle) element of the appliance. With only the cut side of the bagel being toasted, the rounded exterior will remain soft and warm.

Therefore, a bagel setting is a nice toaster feature to look for when buying a toaster.
