Increasing Kitchen Storage Capacity

Remember when coffee mug trees were the rage? By the way, you can still find some of those in some retail outlets and flea markets, but they do require sufficient under-cabinet height and placement room on the counter. You also must ensure that the tree remains balanced at all times to prevent a fall and mug breakage.

If your dish storage is limited, another budget alternative is to hang coffee cups and mugs under your top cabinets. You can readily find cup hooks at your local hardware retailer, but make sure they are the large type to accommodate the cup handle thicknesses.

When installing the hooks, temporarily remove fragile dishes from the upper cabinets while the hooks are being attached to protect those items. Remember to leave enough space between the hooks and test the spacing as you work through this project. Try some of the mugs as well, as sometimes the handle design of certain cups does not work well for hanging. Also ensure that you are not installing hooks where your tall counter appliances are usually placed.

Hanging coffee cups is a very convenient storage option, making them handy to access for that morning coffee and quick to replace after washing them.

Remember that when you store tableware or stemware in open storage areas in your kitchen, there is always a potential for items that are not used every day, to need a cleaning before use.
