Tips & Ideas

• Be sure to watch the Manufacturer video that comes with your FoodSaver - it's really amazing all you can with this appliance.
• Don't store the FoodSaver away, you'll want to keep it handy - you can do so much with it. It takes a fair amount of room when flat for vacuum sealing, but the flip-up design saves counter space.
• The canisters do nest, but the lids don't. They're worth having to vacuum store brown sugar, dry cereal or snacks, keep fruits and vegies fresh, store left-overs, the list is endless.
• Cool hot foods before sealing.
• Make sure there is not too much moisture in the bag - follow the instructions regarding paper towel use and keep the sealing area dry.
• Bags are washable and resealable. However, for safety reasons do not resuse bags that contained raw meats and fish.
• Bags and rolls are readily available where housewares are sold, from the Manufacturer, or various online retailers. Compare prices to get the most for your money.
• Make custom-sized bags from the roll, for those small servings - it's really easy
• Prepare fresh fruit ahead for evening hosting or after school snacks and vacuum seal it in a canister to keep it fresh.
• Vacuum sealing jars of food with the FoodSaver does not provide the same preserving function as home canning. It does increase shelf life, but foods that are perishable still need to be pantry-stored, refrigerated or frozen as usual. For more about canning, see Canning & Home Preserving.
• The Quick Marinator can save you money - you can marinade tougher more economical cuts of meat - for a flavorful tender meal. The FoodSaver marinades much faster than traditional marinating because the flavors and seasonings are absorbed right into the meat in just a few minutes.
