Ginsu Kotta Series Stainless Santoku and Cutting Board 4885 Review

This is a neat and handy design - the large Santoku knife stores right into the cutting board. But how well does the knife perform?

September 20, 2009 This is a convenient design that incorporates a magnetic knife holder built right into the board. When the knife is enclosed, the handle does not protrude out of the rectangular design of the cutting board. The fit of the knife is snug without being difficult to remove. The magnet is strong enough to hold the knife securely and from the moment you start sliding the knife in, its blade is protected.

The classic Japanese style Santoku fits my husband's large hand well and it's very comfortable. The blade has a straight edge that is very sharp, is quality steel and full tang. The handle is shaped and designed with a natural finger guard and has an easy-care brushed finish. Performance of the knife for chopping, dicing, mincing and slicing was outstanding. It easily sliced and chopped various vegetables and meats with ease. This knife is well-balanced and easy to control.

The cutting board is made of hardwood with a natural finish and it has a groove to catch meat drippings. It's a very nice size, not too small, but large enough to carve a roast yet easy to store. There's a handy cut-out handle for carrying or hanging.

This set has a smart design - a practical cutting board that can be hung or carried, with safe storage for, and handy access to the 7" Santoku knife. Knife and board performance were very good. The knife is quality-constructed, durable and easy to maintain. It's a practical kitchen essential that would also make a nice gift set. The Ginsu set is reasonably priced and offers very good value.
