Pot Racks for Storage and Convenience

If you're lacking sufficient storage space for your cookware and kitchen tools, consider installing a pot rack in your kitchen. While providing storage is the main purpose of a pot rack, it can add a lovely focal point to your kitchen while maximize cooking efficiency.

Pot racks are available in a variety of finishes, sizes and styles such as:

• Shelf style with rack that attaches to the wall
• Half circle racks to hang either from the ceiling, or on the wall
• Single hooks that hang from the ceiling
• Square or oval racks that hang from the ceiling over an island or counter
• Ceiling racks that enclose a lighting fixture

Before you start shopping for a pot rack, you should have some idea as to what style would best fit in your kitchen. Consider height requirement (above counter or island), available space for a wall style, clearances on all sides when loaded, adequate bracing in the wall or ceiling to accommodate the weight of a full rack, and how many items you can hang from it. You may also want to purchase sufficient rack hooks, which are usually sold separately.

As far as placement in your kitchen, a good place to hang a pot rack is close to your cooking range for maximum convenience, but never directly above it. Cookware or tools hung over a range would be more prone to attract grease and dust, and could also create a hazard should an item be dropped accidentally on the range during the hanging process. An alternative rack placement could be over a food preparation workspace for handy retrieval of kitchen tools.
