Yesteryear's picnic cooler, this antique picnic hamper sure brings back a lot of memories. Made to last of durable painted tin, with a clamp-down lid and wooden handles, this food hamper went on many island picnics.

Antique picnic hampers were generally made of tin, aluminum or wicker and were enjoyed by many families. You can still occasionally find these at antique stores, garage sales and flea markets.

For our picnics today, we use insulated coolers for perishables and there are also a good variety of picnic baskets on the market, some of which come with accessories such as plates and cutlery.

Antique picnic hampers are a great way to bring a touch of nostalgia to your home. But they can certainly still be used for all the rest of the supplies needed to complete your picnic setting. And picnics are a great way to build family memories.
