The OpenX® was put through its paces to open several items including cartons, food bags and the tough plastic clamshell packaging that our smoke alarms came in - definitely the true test. The sharp retractable blade easily sliced through the tough plastic providing easy access to the inside product.The design of this tool provides safe cutting so that we did not have to use a knife as we usually do with the difficult packaging. Unlike typical box cutters that are small and hard to grasp, this cutter has a great shape and size that is easy to handle, even for arthritic hands.
Handling of this cutter is easier for a right-handed person due to the position of the thumb-action design to lower the blade, but a left-handed person would certainly adapt quickly.
The lip design at the top end includes a sharp blade that can easily be inserted in corners or edges of envelopes and food bags. And this tool can be hung for convenient retrieval.
