Black & Decker TravelPro X30 Steam & Dry Iron

About.com Rating four out of Five

By Mariette Mifflin, About.com

The Bottom Line

The Black & Decker TravelPro X30 iron is a good travel companion. It's ironing performance is that, or better than a regular size model, although it takes only a fraction of the space. The steam option is definitely a great feature to have. So is the 220/240 Volt attached adapter that is required if travelling abroad. With these features and a comparable price, it makes this a good buy.
Pros
  • Steam & dry function
  • Compact with folding handle

  • SilverStone ® coating

  • A little heavier than expected.

Guide Review - Black & Decker TravelPro X30 Steam & Dry Iron

I received this TravelPro as a gift since I do a fair amount of business and leisure travel. It has been a great travel companion, and removed the reliance that hotels would have an iron available. Although it takes little room, the weight was a little more than expected, and occasionally I've had to consider whether I would really use it on a particular trip, before packing it. For extended trips, there would be no hesitation, it would be packed.

It handles very nicely, and presses clothes just as well, if not better, than a regular iron. The steam mist is also great to have. The non-stick coating makes it glide very nicely while pressing.

However, the rubber closure on the water reservoir is not the best design, and needs care to ensure it closes securely. Of course the water needs to be removed when packing, and the unit should be completely dry.

My previous travel iron did not have steam capability, so I find that with all the features this model has, even with the latch that needs a little more effort, it's still a good buy and travel appliance.
