Why does a portable humidifier not hold the same amount of water. Example: A 2 gallon humidifier does not hold 2 gallons of water in its reservoir. Why is there a difference?
It actually refers to the amount of daily humidity output. In other words, a 2-gallon humidifier will expel approximately 2 gallons of moisture to the room each day. Since the water reservoir will be smaller, in order to provide continuous humidification to a room over a 24-hour period, you would have to refill the water tank at some point during that period. Output is measured using average testing data and the actual output will vary depending on what setting you use (quiet, low, or high). The higher the setting, the more quickly the water tank will empty.
When choosing a humidifier, consider portability and ease of use. Large water reservoirs are more difficult to handle, but you'll have to fill it less often. Also consider the recommended room or area coverage which is usually included in the product information.
