The Bottom Line
The Off® PowerPad® Lantern and Lamp are both effective to protect against mosquitoes. During the testing, I found that coverage of the deck area was adequate. It did vary depending on wind direction but at times provided protection for even over the 15' radius. As recommended, avoid inhaling the fumes as this is a pesticide. Initial smoking when candle is lit - place away from open windows/doors and guests. Effective, stylish, much nicer to use than lemon-scented candles and provides wider coverage.

Guide Review - Off PowerPad Mosquito Lamp & Lantern Review
Off® PowerPad® Lamp and Lantern are two slightly different outdoor use only, mosquito repelling products. The main unit (lamp or lantern) is the same size and design, but the Lantern comes attached to the top hook of 4 foot post that can be positioned in the yard. The Lamp should be placed on a table. Each comes with one candle and one PowerPad, and operates the same.Setting up is easy, instructions are clear. When the candle is lit, the heat activates the top-inserted PowerPad. It's unscented; there is no annoying lemon smell. The only odor detected is a mild 'burning rope' smell from the initial smoke when the PowerPad is activated. After a few minutes, you can barely detect that the Lamp is on.
Although the Lamp and Lantern are both effective and I really like the design and concept, the initial smoke when the candle is lit, is annoying to anyone sitting near it. This has affected my rating.
Use care when positioning, avoid inhaling the fumes or having them transfer into the home from an open door/window, since the PowerPad is a pesticide. For the same reason, used PowerPads should not be discarded into the water since this could harm fish.
The candle and PowerPad work together for about 4 hrs. Duration was adequate but is shorter when the candle is lit/relit for shorter periods at a time. When the candle is done, you have to replace it and the PowerPad. To turn it off, blow out the candle and relight when required. Use care when moving lamp/lantern with hot melted wax.
The Off PowerPad Lamp and Lantern are good alternatives to citronella or mosquito coil use. Attractive table accents that provided mosquito protection for a large deck area. Mosquito presence during testing was mild to moderate.
As with any candle use, use care with placement, keep away from small children and pets, and never leave unattended.
