Watching birds out the kitchen window or through the patio door can be very entertaining and for many, it can become a rewarding hobby. How the ChapelWood Feeder Performed
Dec 1, 2011
This is a delightful little feeder and though it's considered modern styling, it has plenty of country charm. Made of ceramic and finished with a high-gloss glaze, it's very easy to wipe or wash and keep clean.
The size is deceiving because of the design; it looks small but actually holds two cups of bird seed and is easy to fill with a plastic cup. The shape of the feeder does provide some protection from rain, but not quite a full cover due to the slanted sides. But the small holes in the bottom should be sufficient to drain away moisture.
The overall finish of the feeder is good, the bottom has been nicely smoothed so there's no rough edges. There's a plastic dowel to serve as the bird perch and it anchors well in position with the included rubber rings. I find this feeder more suitable for small birds when it comes to landing on the glossy ceramic edges or small perch. The blue jays didn't get that message and still keep trying.
This ceramic seed feeder is breakable, so I wouldn't put it out on overly windy days. The design lends to more wind sway than some other feeder designs.

Overall Impression
This ChapelWood Seed Feeder is a nice addition to my bird feeding station which includes several feeders just to manage the demand. And the chickadees love it. I can also picture it hanging from a tree in another corner of the yard, where it can be viewed from the kitchen window.
It has a good design, nice appearance and is very functional. However, I think it also has another function - as an indoor hanging ornament in a garden corner, simply because it's so charming. It could also be used in an indoor garden setting to anchor air plants or as a small vine feeder-themed planter. A cute gift item for $40 for bird or garden lovers and it would also make a nice hostess or thank you gift.
Though the aha! Modern Living site has many garden related items, it also has a nice variety of home decor and gift items. The owner and founder, Jayme Jenkins has a new gardening related book: Garden Rules: The Snappy Synopsis for the Modern Gardener. It looks like an interesting read.
