How to Find the Best Pizza Cutter

If you don't own a pizza cutter, you can cut a pizza with a sharp kitchen knife, but the process is messy and usually does not render a nice, cleanly cut slice. And using a downward cutting motion to chop rather than slice, only slightly improves the results. The problem is that some of the ingredients usually cling to the knife and are dragged along the rest of the slice. But a pizza cutter cleanly slices through, making the task easier and quicker.

There are various pizza cutters on the market and the best design is a rotary-style pizza wheel cutter, that gives a clean cutting edge. But not all pizza cutters work well and some are too small to cut cleanly. A pizza cutter should have a wheel that is at least about 3" in diameter or more, to accommodate a thick pizza with several toppings and to be able to slice easily through while keeping ingredients intact.

Choose a stainless steel pizza cutter if you want durability and one that is easy to clean. The pizza cutter should have a comfortable handle and good grip. The length of the handle does not really matter, as long as it does have a handle, and is comfortable and well-balanced. With this style of pizza cutter, the wheel is fully accessible (by turning) for cleaning, rather than with the closed wheel styles which make cleaning more difficult.

After going through several pizza cutters, I finally found one that I love using - the J&G by Roscan Pizza Cutter. The J&G by Roscan pizza cutter has a sharp 3.5" wheel and a bright green cushioned non-slip handle. The wheel is stainless steel and the cutter is well balanced - so it handles well. I especially like the design of this cutter, you can access the wheel easily for cleaning and it even has a handle guard. It's marketed under the J&G Brand by Roscan, a Canadian manufacturer of quality kitchen tools.

The J&G line of kitchen tools was created by two sisters, Jan and Greta Podleski who started out by publishing their popular Looneyspoons and Eat, Shrink & Be Merry cookbooks. These girls have made their mark in the culinary world by weaving humor and helpful tips into every page of their low-fat-but-delicious-food cookbooks. Designing kitchen tools and aligning with Roscan, was a natural and smart next step. If the J&G pizza cutter is any indication, their kitchen tool line is sure to be a hit with homemakers. You can find this pizza cutter at Canadian Tire in Canada, or where J&G products are sold.
