How the Chocolatiere Performed

November 12, 2012
This compact Chocolatier has a removable porcelain liner and lid. There are no controls on this little appliance; you simply plug it in and unplug when done. Size is 2-1/2 cups, which is appropriate when it comes to melting chocolate for dipping or to use in desserts. It easily holds one bag of chocolate chips or several squares of baker’s chocolate. It’s also a good size to use for warm dips, to keep cranberry or sweet sauces warm on a buffet table.

Melting a bag of chocolate chips took about an hour. That is long, but remember that chocolate is very delicate and will easily scorch, so slow is advisable here. Taking the chocolate out of the refrigerator or freezer ahead of time can save a few minutes. To save time, you can microwave the chocolate (in the liner), then place it in the Chocolatier to finish and/or keep it at a dipping consistency.

I have used quicker electric melting pots but did find with some, that after the chocolate was melted, it sometimes was difficult to keep it from scorching or hardening during the sometimes long dipping process. This Chocolatier does a better job than some of keeping chocolate at a smooth consistency for at least an hour after it is melted, giving me enough time to dip the baking. I also like the bigger capacity, which makes it more versatile for other uses. Most chocolate melting pots are about 1 cup capacity, so I usually have to do more than one batch, which interrupts my work flow.

Clean-up is super quick and it has some good practical accessories - a spiral spoon and small strainer, which work very well for dipping Peanut Butter Balls or cherries.

Overall Impression and Related Resources

This little chocolate melting pot works well, but takes quite awhile to heat up and melt the chocolate. Most may opt to microwave chocolate initially. But it does do a much better job keeping it soft and dippable, than some other models. It’s also more versatile because of the larger capacity. The price is excellent for this small appliance. The Chocolatier makes a nice compliment accessory to the Babycakes treat and waffle makers.
