You can purchase new vintage-look storage jars like this one. Anchor Hocking Glass Company still makes Cracker Jars in various sizes with screw on lids. In fact, my vintage jar may well be a true Cracker Jar made by the Anchor Hocking Glass Company, as the ribbed glass patterns are identical. Cracker jars are sold through various retail outlets as listed on the Anchor Hocking website. You'll also find an interesting write up on the History & Making of Glass on their site.
When searching flea markets and garage sales for jars such as these, here's a few tips of what to look for:
- There are no chips in the glass especially around the rim. Chips can be hard to see but you can run your fingers along the rim to feel for any damaged areas
- That the lid is not too rusty inside; the waxed cardboard lid insert could be removed and discarded if not in good shape
- No cracks are evident in the glass anywhere
- Check the bottom of the jar for chips or wear
- Ensure that the lid screws on easily in place and has not become warped or damaged preventing a good closure
