June 3, 2010:
Maytag Corporation has announced a massive Maytag dishwasher recall of several of their brands, due to serious fire risk. Only certain serial numbers of these brands are affected in this Maytag dishwasher recall.
Dishwashers were purchased in the U.S. and Canada between February 2006 through to
April 2010. The recall includes 1.7 million dishwashers. The hazard is a serious fire risk which could be caused by the heating element.
According to the CPSC and Canada Product Safety, brands affected include: Maytag®, Amana®, Jenn-Air®, Admiral®, Magic Chef®, Performa by Maytag® and Crosley®. The brand name can be found on the front of the dishwasher.
If you have purchased one of these brands, check your dishwasher's serial number against the list of affected models and numbers at the product safety sites below. You'll find your dishwasher's serial number located just inside the cabinet - see illustration.
If your dishwasher's serial number is included in the recall, stop using the dishwasher immediately and follow recall instructions.
