Which kind of blender jar is better, glass or plastic? What are the differences between glass or polycarbonate blender jars?
A glass blender usually costs more than poly models. In fact, most high-end blenders are glass, while those with dispensing spouts are mostly plastic.
Glass has several benefits - it does not discolor or scratch, nor does it absorb food odors like a plastic jar. When the blender is used for crushing ice, a plastic jar can quickly become scratched.
However, a glass jar is much heavier which may be a consideration for those with problem hands or the elderly. They are also more prone to breakage if dropped.
There is third type of blender jar that is more common with commercial blenders than those for home use. Stainless steel jugs are much more durable than plastic or glass but also increase the price of the blender considerably. Compare blender prices
