RACINE, Wis., The new SC Johnson Sleigh Bells Ring, Are You Cleaning? Survey[1] reveals holiday hosts may be more worried about their guests finding a hidden stain than a hidden present. The survey discovered 71 percent of holiday hosts have dirty little cleaning secrets.
Secrets of the Holiday Host
From tossing dirty dishes to ignoring a few chores, the survey reveals holiday hosts may have a few tricks up their sleeves.
- Hidden Treasures. More than half of holiday hosts hide dirt and clutter (59 percent). They stuff things under the bed or in the closet (28 percent), hide items that dont have a place in the garage or basement (26 percent), lock doors so guests cant see whats behind them (23 percent) and flip over couch cushions to hide stains (11 percent). Nineteen percent of holiday hosts skip the hiding and toss out items they dont feel like cleaning or putting away.
- Missed a Spot. Seventy-eight percent of holiday hosts skip cleaning tasks all together, such as cleaning the following household objects: windows (43 percent), holiday china and dishes (36 percent), inside kitchen appliances (31 percent) and the bathtub (14 percent). Two percent of holiday hosts admit to hiring somebody else to clean their home and yet tell their friends and family that they did it themselves.
- Excuses. Some holiday hosts say they skip cleaning tasks because they are comfortable if their place looks clean even if it really isnt (35 percent), they dont think their guests would notice (29 percent) or they plan on keeping guests out of certain rooms (19 percent). The biggest reason for skipping cleaning tasks is the lack of time (60 percent).
