Soda makers have become quite popular and they're a great way to make your own flavored carbonated water or sodas conveniently at home. 
SodaStream® seems to be a popular brand with consumers and they have a wide range of flavored syrups to chose from. Besides the machine which generally does not need electricity, you'll also need reusable BPA-free plastic carbonating bottles, which are specially designed to handle the pressure. The process also requires CO2 cylinders and of course, some flavored syrups.
I haven't used one of these yet, but the process seems very simple. Some kits come with everything you need to get started - that would be my preference. Note that empty CO2 cartridges require special handling. Save money and enjoy sparkling water, carbonated beverages and your own sodas at home. You'll also be reducing the amount of cans/bottles that end up in landfills.
