I am guessing that the steam wash machine means you have to wash with hot water – true?
Hi,
Not at all, the steam is a feature that you use or not, otherwise you wash as you normally would.
What advantage is there to the steam washer or dryer over the basic front loader without steam
A steam cycle is an additional setting, otherwise the washer has all the standard functions you’d expect to have.
The steam setting is handy for freshening clothes such as to remove wrinkles, remove odor etc.
What is the difference between the steam setting on the washer vs on the dryer?
Does the steam feature eliminate or reduce the black mold problem associated with the machines in more humid states (not AZ, CA, NM)
The steam function on a washer and dryer are somewhat different. You’d use the steam on the dryer for removing wrinkles or freshening items that are clean.
A washer steam function would be used as a gentler cleaning process.
Replying to comment #6, a steam function on a washer would not be a solution at all to washer mold. Steam would add humidity to the washer which could make the mold issue worst. For more about washer mold and how some consumers are handling this problem, read reader comments and find helpful tips to resolve front-load washer mold.
I’ve been doing some research on the high end steam washers and I’ve found some very good LG WM3001HWA reviews out there. All in all it looks like a really good machine, but I am really having trouble justifying spending that kind of money over spending less than half as much for something like an LG WM2010CW front load washer, which also got fastistic reviews. I guess I am just questioning the real usefulness of the steam cycles.
