A review of the Sylvania Stainless Steel Microwave Oven. A midsize microwave with great power and cooking options, including cook by weight or time, defrost by weight or time, and preset cooking functions.

(1) d mcknight says:

if you reviewed this product and find that it is worth the money then you must be on the payrol from the sylvania company. I have bought the product and find that it is the last one I will buy from them. 1) from the begining, controls are not user friendly, and 2 it takes anywhere from 2 to 3 times longer to heat items than my older microwave of same size and power could do.

hi i own a sylvania microwave and i wanted to know if there was a recall on it.the date on it is july 2004

(3) Housewares Guide says:

As far as I know, there have been no recalls on this microwave.

In responding to the comment that I must be on the manufacturer’s payroll – I’m not!
I purchased and still own this microwave and find it much faster than my previous .5 cu model. With some preset cooking controls and push button digital – I find it very user friendly.

(4) Trish Ashton says:

We own a Sylvania Microwave that has a date of May 2006 on bottom. Has vents on top instead of side or back. Was in a camper when purchased. Microwave has burning / melting plastic smell when used – does not work at all. Need recall info or guarantee information as Camper Dealer refuses to honor this less than 1 year old purchase.
Thanks for any help you can give us.

(5) Mariette says:

Hi Trish,
I haven’t found any recalls on Sylvania microwaves. That is most unfortunate that your RV micro does not work and the dealer will not provide any relief. Sylvania microwaves have a one year warranty, so you would not be able to obtain a warranty repair. But it may be worth your while to take it to an appliance repair service in your area to see if it can be repaired. It would be wise to get an estimate before approving repairs as these could cost more than buying a replacement microwave.

(6) Sparky says:

This microwave performed reasonably well for three years but self destructed yesterday. I’m not sure what happened but it started to melt the inside of the door when used.

(7) errol says:

Used the microwave for about 2 years . I find hat the paint has peeled off on the inner roof of the machine and has now got spots of rust. Time to throw it away. However I feel that the paint used has NOT been OF ANY HIGH QALITY STANDARD.Suggest that this should be Improved, otherwise it has workd quite well.

(8) Amanda says:

I work at a RV repair facility and I am trying to get a hold of Sylvania to find out where there is an authorized service center in our area for my customer. I know that the microwave has only a one year warranty, but I also know that they will pay for parts for 6 years but no one will answer any of my questions when I call Sylvania. Does anyone have a consumer number that I can try?

(9) chuck dilley says:

Have a Sylvania microwave in my RV. Used it about ten times now it smells like something is burning when we use it .Removed it and looked on the back and it is made in China. I will buy nothing made by Sylavania.

(10) Bill says:

I have to agree with what Chuck Dilley states…I will also NEVER buy anything by Sylvania!!! I have an RV micro/convection oven model and I’ve spent 2 hours on the phone trying to get anyone––ANYONE to want to even try to help. I think the word is out there that getting customer service for any Sylvania micro product is a BIG JOKE!!!

Although my oven hasn’t started to melt or smell like burning plastic, I would appreciate if anyone can help me with a lead on obtaining a replacement glass turntable plate for my unit. You’d think I was searching for the Holy Grail or the Arc of the Covenant or something. This is truly absurd and the true level of irritation cannot be expressed in words!!!!!

I am also looking for a glass plate for a Sylvania Microwave from an RV. Not having much luck either. Does anybody have an answer for this?

July 22, 2009 at 3:07 pm
(13) Stacey says:

We have a Sylvania in our RV that we bought in January of this year, however the unit is a 2008. I wondered if anyone else was having the same issues that we are – when we plug in the RV and open the microwave door, the light comes on dimmly and the plate starts to turn slowly. The microwave will also not work. The air conditioning works, the GFI’s all work, we are plugged in correctly etc. The RV dealership tried it and it works fine. Next step is to unscrew it, bring it in the house and test it.

We have a 2008 5th wheel with a sylvania microwave. Can’t use it with the A/C on as it blows breakers and the microwave is hotter than hell. I’m afraid it’s going to catch on fire. Were looking for another microwave. Not Sylvania.

(15) Garry says:

Same Problem bought new 2008 RV, with the Sylvania SC-11100 Model Convection Microwave. RV was lightly used Less than 45 days of camping. Always used a surge protector and nothing else has blown on the Rig. Found numbers and talked to a person at the Canadian Sylvaina 1800 number. (Turns out the person who answered was in Indiana). Sylvania does not make this model http://www.galanz.com/ does. Called the number the very nice lady gave me. The mail box is full so I can’t leave the message that they ask me to. I bet it has been full for a long long time. I did get a number for a local repair shop (but why bother) It is junk Sylvania should be ashamed and from the sound of the other comments it is just a matter of time before a tragedy occurs.

(16) Fran says:

Purchased a 2009 5th wheel trailer from top of the line manufacturer.
Trailer has a Sylvania microwave oven, Model SR-11092B/SR.
First time we used the microwave it leaked condensate inbetween the door glass.
To me this would indicate a leakage of radiation which could be very dangerous.
Contacted the trailer manufacturer and they said that as long as it is heating they can’t do anything about this problem.
Tried to contact Sylvania and had no luck.
Trailer manufacturer said that they are no longer using Sylvania products in their new models. It is no wonder why.

Any help would be appreciated.

Our microwave is in an RV and works great…model SC-11100. However we need to replace the glass plate. Anyone know how to order it? But we will NEVER buy a sylvania tv, it worked only long enough for the warranty to expire.

I was given a sylvania microwave as a gift and it worked TWO months. Sylvania microwave model P70D20AL-D5 1200wts manug June 2007. This is the second time that I purchased or was given a product made in China and no one…NO ONE answers the phone. Companies in China do not honor warranties and when you finally do get the company reps here in US they blantly tell you they don’t produce the parts anymore. What will we really do? Call the BBB in the US state? Right..I did. Don’t hold your breath!!! Don’t buy Sylvania Microwaves!

(23) P Boast says:

The paint on the inside roof of our Slyvania S.S. microwave started peeling, which make us think the the paint used was not high quality. I noticed that another person has had the same problem. Was there ever a recall regarding this problem, if so we never got any information on this.

Is it safe to use the microwave?

January 4, 2010 at 2:34 pm
(24) Tony says:

Absolutely do not buy a Sylvania product. My model SR11092 in my RV also went out. It is a defective power relay/timer on the circuit board. I have noticed that most appliance dealers won’t even carry this brand and the parts stores doesn’t carry Sylvania parts. I think the RV companies must purchase discontinued appliances for their RV’s at pennies on the dollar and make a fortune selling them. My frigerator also went out right after the warranty . They wouldn’t make it good. I read on the net that others with the same model also went out. The RV companies just use the cheapest most inferior products. They figure it wil last just long enough for the warranty to fun out.

(25) housewares says:

It’s such a shame there have been so many problems with Sylvania microwaves. Mine is still working fine, going on 4 maybe 5 years now and I haven’t had any problems with it.

When it comes to RV micros, it totally possible that factory seconds or obsolete models are used. Sad though, especially if they are built-in and difficult to replace.

Hi, I have a Sylvania microwave model SR-11092G in my RV. As soon as I close the doors it start right away but without heat only the light and the fan is working. Is there a setting that I’m not aware ??? thanks to answer me

(29) Paresh says:

Sylvania microwave from Sam’s Club are horrible. We bought 110 pieces from Sam’s about year ago and within first 6 months we had to take it back few at a time to return since the keys stopped working and it beeps on it’s own and all other problems you can ever imagine. Sam’s at first did not exchange it but gave us $25 credit per piece and after 15-20 of them they even stopped giving credits. We are stuck with almost 80 more “beeping” non functional microwaves. Do Not purchase Sylvania microwave.

Reply to (28) Papi:
Are you pressing the Start button?
Can you use any setting at all?
It also depends on how old it is and maybe it has a setting that is stuck. If it’s still on warranty, you could pursue a repair.
Otherwise, I would try and change the setting.
What happens when you press a power level and time before opening the door, then start button.

(31) Jo-An from NY says:

Well, I just finished reading all of the posts and agree with each of you – DON’T buy a syvania microwave. We too had one SR11092 in our Motor Home which we purchased 2006. Right after we own it, there was a recall on the control panel. It was changed once and about 2 weeks later, the same man came back again and said he had to replace it again. Why? who knows, but anyway, it worked up until last summer and then the control panel went out again. We junked it and found another microwave to fit our space at BJ’s. We are hoping for the best. Thanks for your comments.

(36) Nancy says:

We purchased a used travel trailer today and when I tried the Sylvania Microwave that was built in it, it started smelling like smoke. When I informed the salesperson, he thought it was because it started it with nothing in it. So he goes and puts a styrofoam cup of water (like thats safe) and gets the same thing. So we just unplugged it and bought the trailer anyway. Interesting pattern of RVs with Sylvania microwave problems.

(37) Sandi says:

Like all of you we have a Sylvania in our RV. This is the second in 2 years. The first one died after 10 uses. We had to go to Elkhart (we were on the road) and they replaced it with another Sylvania. By the way Sylvania is not the maker. Someone licensed there name and the repair shop in Elkhart told us there is no recourse because the manufacturer has gone out of business (big surprise). If I could find another oven (not Sylvania) I would replace it. We also get the condensation problem in this one and it leaks out the bottom of the door. I don’t use it very much.

I bought a brand new Airstream trailer, sylvania sc11100, keypad, beebs, was used 2 weeks, got a replacement from them, 2 weeks later samething. Bought an extened warranty from the mfg. hope they honer the machine with something different.

In March we purchased a 2006 Prowler that has a built in Sylvania Microwave model 11092B. Being a used unit the only manual I found for the microwave was in (I think) French. I asked at my dealers and they suggested I “google” it, and that is how I wound up here! After reading all the comments I am not sure I even want to use it! Anyway does anyone know how I can get a manual in English?

I have a 2009 Montana 5th wheel. The Sylvania SC-11100
Microwave never worked very well. Would only pop 1/2 bag of popcorn, then burn the rest. Door latch broke. Can’t get the door open. RV service man says no parts are available. He’s looking for a replacement. No more sylvania products for me

(42) Joe Haskett says:

I too have a Sylvania Model # 11092B that came installed in my Fifth wheel. same problems as noted above about the moisture between the front glass since we got the unit. had it in to the RV manufacturer service center and they said there was nothing they could do because some times it did heat.

Recently we attempted to use it, guess what? now it will not even POP two bags of popcorn, it will shut down before the second bag is half way popped. Just appears that a thermocouple opens up after 5-7 minutes the thermocouple will close and you are good for another bag.. LOL

Looking for a place to Purchase a replacement and have found similar sized microwaves at Target, for all those who are looking for replacements. They are definitely cheaper than what a repair facility will charge so good by Sylvania,

(43) Wheeler says:

I also have a problem with the SC11100 microwave oven when it beeps & I open the door it sounds like it is still running. I have tried to cancel the programed time but a fan still runs not sure if this suposed to happen. Any help appreciated

November 30, 2012 at 8:12 pm
(44) housewares says:

No microwave should keep running when you open the door. That may apply to some multifunction microwaves with convection and traditional oven features, but not a standard microwave. If still under warranty, I would seek a repair or replacement. Otherwise you may be faced with finding a repair depot or looking for a replacement.

February 17, 2013 at 12:41 pm
(45) Barb Thompson says:

We also have a Sylvania micro/convection oven in our trailer. We had it replaced by our trailer manufacturer just after we bought the 5th wheel. Now in this one the fan keeps running after I use the micro, and it will not pop a bag of popcorn. It is not the popcorn as it pops in other microwaves. When I use the convection part the turntable stops turning and so the product being cooked burns on one spot and the fan quits running. I thought that in convection cooking the fan works all of the time and the turntable should keep rotating. The turntable keeps rotating for micro cooking. I am very disappointed in this oven. It is frustrating.

(47) Billie Jo says:

Yesterday, I cooked noodles in our Sylvania microwave in the FS 2300 Weekend warrior 2008 Travel trailer and it finished cooking, then I went to use it again and it would not go on. The clock button was stuck and would not turn on. The face plate seemed to be stuck. I the middle of the night it kept running and running and running… it would not stop. My Husband turned the breaker off. The next morning, he turned the breaker on and I used it once and then it froze again. ??? Crazy!

(48) Eric says:

And here I thought I was the isolated unlucky one that got a lemon Sylvania SR-11092B microwave. Guess I’m not nearly alone with the issues many others have experienced. Mine wouldn’t shut off when plugged in. Once the unit was plugged in the light, fan and turntable all activated. Purchased new with a 2008 fifth wheel. I’m arranging for a replacement so I have a plate and turntable if anyone still has a working one and would like them. Or, if someone would like the entire unit for parts you’re welcome to that also. No charge, just pay for shipping.
