(2) Jeff says:

My wife and I have owned a Maytag Performa since 2000, and it’s a durable, dependable machine. We’d still be using it if we hadn’t just bought front-loading high efficiency machines.

I guess Maytags are like everything else now, built to break. Gone are the days of buying appliances that last 20 years. Here are the day of poor quality, expensive appliances we are lucky to get 5 years from. What are we worried about plastic water bottles for when we fill our dumps with appliances.

(5) Disappointed says:

Obviously the Performa series has some major issues with the transmission. My transmission stripped just after 2 years as well.

(6) Kathleen says:

My Performa washer has had nothing but problems since we purchased it in July of ‘03. We’ve had to have the water level sensor repaired 2 times. Just last week, the tub started leaking and the transmission went out. I will NEVER buy Maytag again. What a disappointment!

So sad to hear about all these problems with the Performa. Mine is over two years now and still performing well.

My parents bought a maytag washer & Dryer when i was a newborn (1969) and just sold it, not trashed it, about 5 years ago to a friend. They are both still running strong! So naturally i bought maytag myself. Its lasted me 4 years and one e-wife and still running stong. Guess i just got the only good transmition. I love my maytag!!

My Maytag Performas transmission went out two years after buying it. I will NEVER buy a Maytag again, especially after reading site after site of the same reported problem.

Just got back from vacation with 20 loads of laundry. Our maytag performa washing machine stopped spinning. We will not be buying another maytag!

(14) hbillyjo says:

Mine lasted about 3 years and died. I had a home warranty that covered repairs so I had it fixed
and within 6 months it died the same way again. I’ll never waste money on a Maytag again. My
sister has the same one and absolutely hates it also, to make it spin you have to slam the lid and
even then sometimes it doesn’t work.

(15) housewares says:

I used my Performa for over a year, then passed it to my daughter two years ago when I moved. It’s still working fine and working harder than ever with more in that household. She has had no problems at all with it.

(16) LYLE says:

our performa worked great for four years. I had to have it almost completely rebuilt. Four months later, bam, the drain pump went out. So I bought a used washer, I guess they will be like bic lighters, use them and them throw them a way, so much for buying name brand.

glad to hear that maytag is now owned by whirlpool…oh yeah..someone will say their whirlpool lasted 2 years…then how about ge….oh wait…it lasted 2 years…. do you get it “theres problems with everything” if you buy a ferrari it may break. the space shuttle may break…dang you throw nasty disgusting dirt filled clothes in washers and expect them to last a lifetime.
–You take your car to the servicer for preventative maintenance like oil changes, new tires, etc. etc. You don’t take your appliances in. THEY WILL BREAK. BUY THE WARRANTY OR QUIT BITCHING AND BUY THE NEW ONE WHEN IT BREAKS. its what you tell the salesman. OH IF IT BREAKS I”LL JUST BUY A NEW ONE. lying dumba*Z. you’ll just complain and then swear consumer reports was wrong. Oh wait. the same people that test socks tests appliances. more idiots. just be happy your alive!

I bought my mother a Maytag Perfoma in ‘05…what a piece of junk. No one was willing to come look at it, the closest “Maytag” repairman was in another state..and for what it would have cost for him to come out..I could have bought another washer. I would advise anyone looking for a washer to stay as far away as possible from Mytag, and make sure the one you do buy has a service tech … close by! Maytag Man my a**!!!

(19) Mervin says:

I have a Maytag Performa I bought 10 years ago. I never new until recently that the agitator wasn’t working correctly. Another add water switch went out and on spin cycle always walked out into the middle of the laundry room even with a 250# man sitting on it. Didn’t matter how much or how little was in it. First one I ever bought brand new and probably the last. The oldies are in fact the goodies. I have to say though, it still spins. The next spin it takes will be to the dump!!
